Our semester-long study away program in the British Isles is extremely popular among majors and non-majors. In addition to seeing tons of plays, you’ll take classes with members of the Royal Shakespeare Company, visit historic sites like Edinburgh Castle, and attend shows on London’s West End. Each year, the trip has a slightly different focus depending on the professors leading the trip. In the past, students have focused on costume design, architecture, and emerging styles of theatre.<\/p>\n
The British Isles is a haven of international theatre and this trip is a great way to experience the area. You\u2019ll have the chance to visit Shakespeare\u2019s home in Stratford<\/a> and spend six weeks in London<\/a>, with a number of shorter trips in between. The exact locations vary year to year depending on the dates of different theatre festivals. All the while taking classes with Furman professors and guest teaching artists along the way!<\/p>\n Want to explore the British Isles? One of our faculty members co-leads the students to Britain every other year, with our trips in even-number fall semesters. To apply, you\u2019ll need to complete an application through the Office for Study Away and International Education<\/a> and interview with our department one year in advance.<\/p>\n Interested in going elsewhere? Furman Theatre has connections with the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Theater Institute<\/a>, Double Edge Theatre<\/a> in Ashfield, MA, and Accademia dell’Arte<\/a> in Arezzo, Italy where we have taken students to study and travel.
