All May Experience programs give students a chance to explore areas not covered in the regular curriculum and provide opportunities for students to dig deeper into areas not previously considered. Past programs have focused on the sociology of Harry Potter, statistics through sports, sociology of dance, and public sociology. These programs may include off-campus trips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>MXP 202 \u2013 Science and Culture of Happiness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An examination of happiness from the lens of the social sciences. The emphasis will be on both social policies and individual practices associated with well-being. Class discussions, frequent reflective writing, and participation activities known to increase happiness will be required.\u00a0 This program is based in Copenhagen, Denmark.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EDU 265 \u2013 International Perspectives on Education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This study away May Experience course provides in-depth exploration of education systems across the world. Previous destinations include Finland, Czech Republic, Italy, New Zealand, and Australia. While the course focuses on education and in-person school visits, students simultaneously engage with material about the social, political, historical, and cultural roots that shape educational practices in different contexts. A sociological lens is especially pertinent when considering educational\/social policies and the interplay between micro, meso, and macro level forces that influence schooling.
