Beyond this, students become adept at adjudicating truth claims, forming arguments, and understanding other cultures and religious viewpoints&#8211;all important skills in our current contemporary context. Furman religion majors have recently pursued degrees in the following fields:<\/div>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some careers religion majors pursue are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Nonprofit Administrator<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Minister<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Chaplain<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Lawyer<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Social Worker<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Teacher<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Diplomat<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Journalist<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Human Rights Advocate<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Researcher<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Professor<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Museum Curator<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Things to Do Before Planning a Career<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">In addition to the knowledge from classes, hands-on experience through research and internship can help determine your future profession.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When determining a possible career after graduation, you should intern at companies or organizations that align with your interests. For instance, are you interested in local charity organizations? Try United Way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Some of our majors have interned within local editorial offices, non-profit organizations, and faith-based organizations. <\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/religion\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/100\/2021\/12\/What-you-need-to-KNOW.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Furman&#8217;s Summer Internship Fellowship Program<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0provides a stipend and discounted housing on campus for those interning full-time for 8-12 weeks during the summer months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If you have some research interest or have plans for graduate school, many opportunities are available to get your feet wet in the field. Investigate the interests of\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/religion\/faculty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">our faculty<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0to see if you could collaborate on a research project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Additionally, if you are curious about teaching, ask professors about previous classes you have taken offered during the summer. You could be a\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/religion\/student-experiences\/research-internship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">teaching assistant<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">, which includes duties like holding discussion groups, hosting study sessions, and conducting brief lectures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>And lastly, o<span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">ur <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/spiritual-life\/exploration-vocation-ministry\/\">Exploration of Vocation &amp; Ministry<\/a> program provides further guidance for those interested in exploring their faith through specific internships, weekly meetings, and University Worship.
