We believe in exposing our students to a variety of ideas, fields, and contemporary research topics.<\/p>\n<h2>Math &amp; the Mouse<\/h2>\n<p>One of our most notable programs is Math &amp; the Mouse, a May Experience that takes place in Disney World.<\/p>\n<p>The course is project-driven. Students complete major group projects, give presentations, and pursue their own interests during the three week course. Students must have completed MTH-141, 145, 150, or an equivalent in order to apply. View our past <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/mathematics\/conferences-events\/clanton-lecture-series\/\">visiting mathematicians<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Carolinas Sports Analytics Meetings<\/h2>\n<p>This program began in 2013, providing a space for faculty and students to explore sport statistics. In the inaugural year, topics included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cSports\u2019 Most Unassailable Record\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cDiamonds in the Rough: An Enhanced Rating System for MLB Batters and Pitchers\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cBoxing in Basketball: What Factors Affect the Outcome in a College Basketball Game?\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While COVID-19 prevented recent meetings, check back on the page for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/mathematics\/conferences-events\/carolinas-sports-analytics-meetings\/\">Carolinas Sports Analytics Meetings<\/a> for updates.<\/p>\n<h2>Wylie Mathematics Tournament<\/h2>\n<p>The tournament is a one-day event meant to inspire students to study mathematics. High school students who are passionate about mathematics should register. Registration is free! Participants only need to pay for lunch and transportation.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/mathematics\/conferences-events\/wylie-tournament-registration\/\"> register<\/a> for this year&#8217;s competition is March 4th, 2022.
