Huff, a longtime faculty member in the History Department (1968-2003), Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean (1996-2003), and distinguished historian of Greenville and South Carolina history.<\/p>\n<p>The Huff Center for Piedmont History serves as a platform for engaged learning in the History Department at Furman University.\u00a0 Today, the Center largely serves as a funding source for (1) student, faculty, or collaborative research projects during the academic year or summer on local or South Carolina history; (2) supports in-house scholarly work and public history projects by our faculty on local or South Carolina history; and (3) sponsors Cultural Life Program (CLP) lectures or other events that promote local or South Carolina history to the general public, the Furman community, and our majors.<\/p>\n<p>To receive Center funding, students and\/or faculty shall <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.furman.edu\/view.php?id=1464599\">submit an application<\/a>,<\/strong> detailing the nature of the scholarly project, a proposed timeline, and any estimated costs.\u00a0 The department chair shall determine how Center Funds are disbursed.<\/p>\n<p>Applications will be accepted immediately and be considered on a rolling basis.<\/p>\n<p>Questions regarding the Huff Center for Piedmont History should be sent to Dr. Lane Harris, Professor of History and Department Chair: <a href=\"mailto:lane.harris@furman.edu\">lane.harris@furman.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Huff Center for Piedmont History In the late 1990s, Dr. Stephen O&#8217;Neill established the Center for Piedmont History through donations and grant funding.\u00a0 In 2004, Dr. O&#8217;Neill changed the name of the organization to the Huff Center for Piedmont History in honor of the retirement of A.V.
