Both labs are installed with all the software used in classroom instruction, both commercial and open-source packages, and are available to students until 11pm most evenings (see our lab schedule for more information).

Riley Hall 201 is used primarily for CSC-101, CSC-102 and CSC-111 class instruction. This room is also used from time to time for special workshops and evening classes.

Riley Hall 203 is used primarily for programming language courses and upper-level courses within the Computer Science majors. Both labs, however, are installed with the same software, ensuring that students in any class may work in either lab.

The machines in Riley Hall 201 and 203 are supplied by the university on a three-year rotation. The rotation schedules are staggered, ensuring that the students have access to the latest technology.

Peripherals

The Department provides more than just high-end computing platforms. We also maintain a number of laser printers (both color and monochrome), digital cameras, slide and flatbed scanners and multimedia presentation capabilities.

Servers

The Department also maintains a variety of servers. Student accounts and class folders are housed on the department’s file servers. CS majors are provided space for personal websites on the department’s web server. Lab printers are managed through the department’s print servers. Login authentication is handled through the department’s own domain controllers. The Department also maintains several database servers and a code versioning / repository servers, accounts for which are provided as needed.

Clusters

We also maintain a state-of-the-art, 32-node cluster computer named Beowulf. Beowulf is shared with NASA scientists and is available through the departmental network. Students and faculty often use Beowulf for research.

Labs The Department maintains two computer labs, each equipped with state-of-the-art workstations.
