Townes Science Center. Dedicated in 2008, this $62.5 million facility houses all of the science departments at Furman. You&#8217;ll find cutting-edge research happening throughout this 200,000-square foot building.<\/p>\n<p>As a biology student, you&#8217;ll have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment in a modern facility. Our space features a number of areas for specialized instruction and undergraduate research:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A large greenhouse adjacent to the Townes Science Center that is equipped with a tidal wetland aquatic waste water treatment system<\/li>\n<li>A molecular assays core facility with darkroom, that provides instrumentation and expertise to faculty and students in several departments<\/li>\n<li>Aquatic biology laboratory with temperature-controlled aquaria and an indoor stream<\/li>\n<li>Controlled-environment laboratory with reach-in environmental chambers<\/li>\n<li>Natural history collections consisting of plants, small vertebrates, and insects<\/li>\n<li>A 1,354 sq. ft. animal facility, overseen by a three faculty and a consulting veterinarian in accordance with the DHHS requirements and approved by the Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare of the NIH.<\/li>\n<li>Separate, dedicated rooms for flourescence microscopy and radiosotope work<\/li>\n<li>A walk-in cold room<\/li>\n<li>Areas for individual and group study<\/li>\n<li>Lab space for each of our faculty members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our department is located in the Charles H.
