Because at Furman, we\u2019re preparing you to engage with the people, ideas and issues that shape one of the world\u2019s most dynamic regions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Asian Studies News:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-360 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/academics\/asian-studies\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/53\/2022\/09\/Untold-Journeys.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"308\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 400px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 400\/308;\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/storymaps.arcgis.com\/stories\/4844f5d2a6a24ab497a01a465ce5e9c8\"><em>Untold Journeys: Exploring Furman and Greenville\u2019s Connections with Asia<\/em><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is a collaborative Digital Humanities project, produced by two Furman undergraduates\u2014Eli Kibler and Eva Kiser\u2014and a professor of art history\u2014Kylie Fisher\u2014that explores the contributions of Asian and Asian American students and faculty at Furman as well as community members in the surrounding Greenville area. It\u00a0amplifies the stories of missionaries, students, professors, businesspeople, and refugees who journeyed between South Carolina and Asia from the late nineteenth through the twentieth century. Now, the Furman University Asian studies major wants to help young people in Honduras start businesses and spur the economy there.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A new program for Furman students, developed by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/innovation-entrepreneurship\/\">The Robert and Margaret Hill Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship<\/a>\u00a0and in collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/venturesouth.vc\/\">VentureSouth<\/a>, could help him do that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Guillen is in the inaugural cohort of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.furman.edu\/innovation-entrepreneurship\/innovation-entrepreneurship\/clemens-angel-analyst-fellowship\/\">Furman Angel Analyst Fellows<\/a>, learning what it takes to be angel investors&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Guillen said he aspires to start an angel investing group in Honduras, and possibly in Mexico, where his stepfather is from. The countries, he said, \u201cneed investment into entrepreneurs to create new business and economic opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">He appreciates that the program was open to non-business majors, and says his background in humanities gives him a more global perspective on things.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cI had the opportunity to learn about the cultures, customs, traditions and languages of countries around the world, which is important for the next generation of leaders,\u201d Guillen said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you want to explore a new world and culture, the Asian Studies department at Furman University will take you beyond the traditional classroom experience.
