Why Furman? When I was looking at schools, I had two main priorities. I wanted a school community that was engaged and welcoming and I wanted an academic program that had professors who were passionate about teaching and accessible. From on-campus tours to accepted student revisits, Furman clearly stood out as a school where the students’ needs and aspirations were prioritized and celebrated. Furman’s proximity to up and coming Greenville was the icing on the cake
Which professor has made the biggest impact on you while at Furman, and why? Professor Lewis in the communications department has made the biggest impact on me at Furman thus far. Her approach to teaching, filled with building connections with her students and passion for her subject, turned a class that could be dry into a lively learning environment filled with discussion and debate. Without pounding on the work, she has challenged me to higher levels of thinking and pushed me to write in ways I did not know I was capable of.
What is your favorite Furman memory? My favorite Furman memory was on one beautiful fall day when my two friends and I decided to rent bikes from the PAC and to ride to Traveler's Rest for lunch. For one of them, this was her first time riding a bike! You can imagine this was a hysterical ride down the swamp rabbit trail, but our adventure was rewarded with a delicious lunch at my favorite pizza place, Sidewall pizza.
What is your favorite thing spot/activity to do in Greenville? I love strolling up and down Main Street and the reedy river in downtown Greenville. My favorite spots are cantina 76, spill the beans, the steps of the bookstore, and the outdoor bench swings down by the water.
In my spare time I like to... In my spare time, I like to wind down and just relax with my friends. Whether it is hours long dinners in the dining hall or movie night in homemade forts in our hall lounge, I cherish the time where I just get to be with friends.
