How To Put an Image into a MSWord Document

  • Go into MSWord and open a NEW document Click on FILE - NEW.
  • On the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on "Insert" and then "Frame".
  • A dialogue box will open, asking if you want to change from NORMAL to PAGE LAYOUT view. Click on YES.

  • Your arrow-shaped cursor will change to a crosshatch cursor. Use the cursor to draw a box the approximate size of the picture you wish to insert. To do this, place the cursor in the position of the upper left-hand corner of the box you are about to draw, hold down the LEFT mouse button and drag the mouse from left to right to draw the top of the box. Don't let go! Now drag the cursor straight down what will be the right side of your box and the other three sides will be drawn automatically. When you have finished the box, release the mouse button.
  • Click the mouse inside the box. The cursor will automatically jump to the upper left corner of the box.
  • Return to the menu bar at the top of the screen and click on "Insert" and then "Picture".
  • A dialogue box that looks like this will pop up:

  • From this menu, you will select the image you want to insert. Choose the appropriate drive, directory and image file. You can preview the image on the right by highlighting (single click) the file name on the left. Double click on the file name of the image you wish to insert, it will pop into the box in your document and this window will close.
  • Once the image is in your document you can RESIZE it by clicking on the image to make the frame appear, then click on the frame to make the handlebars appear. Position the cursor over one of the handlebars until it changes to a double-headed arrow. You can drag from the corners (which will resize your image proportionately) or the other handlebars to make it wider or longer (which will change the original proportions of your image).
  • You can also MOVE your image by placing your cursor over the image until it changes to a double arrow crossbar, then click and hold down the LEFT mouse button to drag the image to the position you want.
