How To Prepare an Overhead Transparency

  1. First prepare your image by inserting it into an MSWord document. If you have forgotten how to do this, see instructions here.
  2. When your document is ready to print, click on FILE then PRINT. Select the color printer (in the LRC that is the DeskJet 1600C), then click on PROPERTIES. Select the level of quality you want by clicking the appropriate radio button (Presentation, Normal, Draft). For high quality color transparencies, select PRESENTATION.
  3. Then choose the type of paper by clicking the down arrow to select TRANSPARENCY FILM. It is the very last item on the list--you will need to scroll down to it.
  4. Insert a transparency film in the printer with the arrow edge towards the inside. WARNING: When you purchase your transparency film, make certain you buy the type that is designed for color printers and NOT xerox machines. Using the wrong type of film in either machine will create havoc!! The film will melt in the machine and cause serious damage.
  5. When you are satisfied that all is ready, click on OK in the Properties box, then OK in the print box.
  6. Wait patiently -- color printing takes a while. Your patience will be rewarded with a beautiful color transparency.
