J. Scott Derrick, M.Ed.
Director of Student Activities & the UC

A native of Irmo, South Carolina, J. Scott Derrick has worked in higher education for almost 20 years. A 1988 graduate of Furman University with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, J. Scott received his Master's of Education degree in 1990 from the University of South Carolina with a major in Student Personnel Services. He served for 2 years as the Assistant Director of Student Activities at the University of Richmond, then 6 years as the Director of Student Life at the College of Charleston. He also served as a dynamic speaker on the college circuit, presenting the Creative Dating Workshop and the "Hoo-Ray" Orientation program to over 20 colleges and universities across the country. J. Scott came back to Furman in 1999 as the Director of Student Activities and a year later took over as Director of the University Center. He is a consistent presenter of educational sessions with the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) and the Association of College Unions International (ACUI), as well as local and regional sessions on leadership, management, and motivation! J. Scott also teaches an Ebay 101 course in Furman's Continuing Education Department, and teaches the course 3 times per year. In his "other life," J. Scott is a licensed professional auctioneer, and he and his wife, Deborah, live in Taylors, SC, with their daughter, Gracie.

Jessica Berkey, M.S.
Assistant Director for Activities & Orientation

Jessica grew up in northeastern Ohio and received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education from Capital University (Columbus, Ohio) in 2005. She completed her graduate studies in 2007, receiving Master of Science in College Student Personnel Services from Western Illinois University (Macomb, Illinois). Jessica is actively involved with the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA), and is also a member of the American College Personnel Association, ACPA, and the National Orientation Directors Association, NODA. Jessica loves working at Furman, and feels lucky to work on such a beautiful campus with great students. Aside from work, she enjoys traveling, fireworks, and anything having to do with pop culture. She is also an avid New Kids on the Block fan. Stop by her office and say hi!


Bradley Hill, M.S.
Assistant Director for Event Services

A native of Senatobia, MS, Brad graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Master of Science in Student Affairs. Brad began working at Furman in the spring of 2009.

Brad is responsible for overseeing the day to day operations of the University Center, which includes: customer relations, setups, game room and the information desk. He also assists in coordinating the Paladin Nites late night program.

Amber Lollis, G.G. P.
Reservationist and Department Assistant

Amber is a Greenville native with over 25 years of senior executive level administrative experience in a broad range of business environments.  She serves as the reservationist and department assistant for Student Activities and the University Center.
