For the Greater Good

“Our science departments have earned a reputation for outstanding teaching and undergraduate research programs. These building plans re.ect our desire to strengthen our work in the sciences by equipping and endowing exemplary undergraduate facilities that will promote collaborative learning, teaching and student-faculty scholarship.”
—Tom Kazee, vice president for Academic Affairs and Dean

The benefits of the new Townes Center for Science, which comprises four buildings (Plyler Hall, the new North and South Buildings and Riley Hall), will reach far beyond the campus. It will encourage the growth of technical companies in the Carolinas, as our faculty and students do sponsored research for local firms, and produce increased demand for Furman graduates and professionals who are able to combine their knowledge of the sciences with the broad knowledge base and values resulting from a liberal arts education.

Today more than 72 percent of Furman graduates begin graduate school within five years of graduation; and as international technical and industrial commerce increases in Upstate South Carolina, the opportunities for these Furman alumni will rise dramatically worldwide.
