ENG-12-A American Drama on Film (Dr. Nick Radel)

An introduction to eight classic American plays from the 1920s through the 1980s and how these plays might be staged by studying them next to the filmed versions that were made of them over the years. Films will be shown in class. Among the plays to be studied are possibly: Philip Barry's Holiday (1928), Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes (1939), Eugene O'Neill's A Long Day's Journey into Night (1941), William Inge's Picnic (1953), Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun (1959), Edward Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf (1962), Beth Henley's Crimes of the Heart (1979), and Charles Fuller's A Soldier's Play (1981).
