Craig Beckner, from Mebane, NC is an aspiring music and business student with passions including music composition and performance, international business and foreign language. These interests having taken Craig abroad to Spain and through experiences like his Spanish club, music ensembles and performances in his community, and leadership roles in Student Government Association, National Honor Society, and his Young Men’s Ministry Team. While a Furman student and a Shucker fellow, Craig hopes to pursue Greek Life and other student organizations, service-learning and international studies abroad, music performance opportunities on campus and in Greenville, and internships in the surrounding area or overseas.
Carly is a Business Administration major from Grand Island, New York. In addition to the Shucker Leadership Institute, she is an Admission Ambassador, works as a student assistant in the Admissions Office, is a Resident Assistant, a member of Chi Omega, the club soccer captain, and a member of Delight Ministries. In her free time she loves to spend time outside and in Greenville with friends, especially when it's over a great meal.
Laurin is from Edmond, Oklahoma and intends to pursue public health and poverty studies. She hopes to work in health advocacy for developing nations and later become a professor at a liberal arts university.She also dreams of being a Disney princess in her spare time. At Furman she serves others through the Heller Service Corps, the Poverty Awareness Club, and the Save the Children Action Network. She also enjoys connecting with her peers and with nature through the Outdoors Club, the Environmental Action Group, and the Engaged Living program. After graduation, Laurin hopes to join the Peace Corps and follow God's plan for her by giving a voice to the voiceless wherever life takes her.
Jamison Brown is from Gastonia, North Carolina. He is a double major in philosophy and religion. Jamison is involved in a number of things on campus including Reformed Undergraduate Fellowship, the Best Buddies, and the Men of Distinction programs. He loves to play ultimate frisbee and work with people who have special needs.
Julia Castanet is from Atlanta, GA. She is a business major with a double major in Spanish. Her dream job would be anything where she gets to work helping or being with children. She also serves as the sophomore class secretary in SGA, an Orientation Staff Leader, Admissions Ambassador, and is a proud member of Alpha Delta Pi. In her free time she loves exploring new cities and traveling around the world, but her dream city would be Manhattan.
Margaret is from Lexington, Kentucky. She is a health science major with intentions to pursue a career in public health. After internships with various medical providers in Kentucky, she hopes to continue exploring opportunities through Furman and in the Greenville community. Beyond the classroom, Margaret is involved in Heller Service Corps as a Greenville Humane Society Volunteer and is a member of Alpha Delta Pi women’s fraternity.
Caroline Daly is a Neuroscience major from Myrtle Beach, SC. She is on a pre-medicine track and plans to work in pediatrics. In addition to being Assistant Director for the Shucker Leadership Institute, she is a Program Director for Catholic Campus Ministry, a Fall Orientation Staff leader, a TA for psychology, a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, and a member of Delta Delta Delta. She has a heart for people and likes to spend her free time volunteering in local schools. Her passions include working with children, baking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
Nora Duesterhaus is a Hollingsworth Scholar from Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is a Political Science and Information Technology double major. On campus she serves as the External Philanthropy Chair for her sorority, Zeta Tau Alpha, as well as a Resident Assistant for freshman through Housing and Residence Life. She also participates in the South Carolina Youth in Government Conference as a Resource Staff member. After graduating from Furman, she hopes to have a job in Washington, D.C.
Madeline East is a Health Sciences and Spanish double major from Memphis, Tennessee. She is on the pre-occupational therapy track and plans to work in pediatrics. In addition to the Shucker Leadership Institute, she is an Admissions Ambassador, the External Philanthropy Chair and Girl Scout Assistant of Kappy Delta, and is involved with the Furman University Outdoors Club, Furman Swing 'n Shag, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, as well as Delight Ministries. She enjoys doing anything outdoors and spending time with friends.
Chambers is a philosophy and environmental science double major from Macon, Georgia. He is an active student board member in the Mere Christianity Forum and participates in regular discussions and events with the NAACP. Chambers helps lead a research team at the Shi Center for Sustainability, analyzing Furman’s waste stream and writing a ten-year Zero Waste Plan. During his free time, he enjoys building furniture with Soteria ministries and exploring the Upstate. He is considering a future in environmental policy but remains open to other paths to serve his community.
Sam Fowler is a from Tampa, Florida. She is a communications major with a focus in art and graphic design. She hopes to use the opportunities Furman provides to grow her passion for creative writing. Sam has developed Leadership skills through her involvement Furman Futures, Shucker Leadership, and Admissions as an ambassador to Furman. She is invested in greek life through the Chi Omega Women’s Fraternity. Sam is a Junior Board Member of the Triad Foundation. She enjoys events held by Furman University Outdoors Club and Swing and Shag Club. In her free time, she enjoys producing and selling art. She hopes to have a career which fosters creativity and personal passions.
Rachel Goding is a health science major from Tampa, FL. At Furman she has developed wonderful connections through involvement in Shucker Leadership Institution, the Admission office's Furman Futures program, Reformed University Fellowship, Mere Christianity Forum, and the club ultimate frisbee team. During her free time, exploring Greenville and surrounding outdoor opportunities with friends has sparked great joy for Rachel. After Furman, she hopes to go on to study Occupational Therapy and work in the pediatric field.
Matt is from York, Pennsylvania. At Furman, he studies spanish, latin american studies, and business administration. In his free time, he enjoys modifying cars, working as the vice president of the men’s club volleyball team, participating in the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. In the future, he hopes to become a Latin American marketing specialist.
Reed is from Greenville, South Carolina. At Furman, Reed's academic interests lie in Elementary Education. Currently, he has a craving to be an educator at the elementary school that he attended. Reed is the only male cheerleader on the Furman University Cheerleading squad. In his free time, he can be found tumbling with his teammates or walking around the lake with his dog, Zola.
Payton is a history education major and a member of the Furman Marching Band, Furman Creative Collaborative and the Baptist Collegiate Ministry on campus. He is originally from rural West Virginia but has lived in Asheville, North Carolina for most of her life. Additionally, he enjoys participating in outdoor activities such as swimming and playing sports with friends.
Mary Katherine McCarty
Mary Katherine McCarty is from Lexington, Kentucky. She is majoring in business administration and is currently involved in Catholic Campus Ministries and Heller Service Corps at Furman. Outside of her studies, Mary Katherine is employed at Pure Barre in Greenville and enjoys running and swimming in her free time.
Quincy Mix hails from North East, Pennsylvania and is majoring in History. In addition to his involvement with the Shucker Leadership Institute, Quincy also serves on the Student Conduct Board and works part-time as a Life Team Volunteer for Life for the Innocent, an anti-human trafficking non-profit. After graduation, he plans to either attend law school or complete a master's degree in applied intelligence.
Mary Bradley Pazdan
Mary Bradley is from Greenville, South Carolina and is majoring in political science. She loves being a Shucker Fellow but also enjoys being the Class of 2019 Vice President, participating in Catholic Campus ministries, being captain of the Club Swim Team, and volunteering with Heller Service Corps. After graduating, Mary Bradley plans on pursuing a career in public policy or education policy and maybe attending graduate school. In her free time, Mary Bradley enjoys coaching swimming at a local swim club, and spending time with her friends, her identical twin sister, and her family.
Emily Sink is from Birmingham, Alabama. She is a Pyschology and Religion double major pursuing a career in pastoral counseling. Along with the Shucker Leadership Institute, she is also involved in Reformed University Fellowship, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Furman University Outdoors Club, Psychology Club, and Kappa Delta Sorority. Emily is passionate about serving others and participates in a leadership team within Kappa Delta mentoring new members. She also shares a love for piano and music and enjoys playing in her free time.
Born in Alexandria, Egypt, but raised in Simpsonville, SC, Marina is very much a hybrid of the two cultures. Coming to Furman as local, she was able to take advantage of opportunities such as the Shucker Leadership Institute, Furman Creative Collaborative, TEDX curation team, and Orthodox Christian Fellowship. She is also a part of Housing and Residence Life as a First year Advisor (FRAD), and she is a member of Alpha Phi Omega. Lover of traveling, reading, and the all things candy, Marina continues her journey as a sophomore in hopes of one day becoming a Pediatrician.
Noah Vieira is a biochemistry major from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He is currently following the pre-med track with the desire to attend medical school. Noah has a passion to serve his community and fulfills this passion as a freshman representative of the Heller Service Corps as well as through his involvement in the Men of Distinction mentoring program. Additionally, he is a part of the faith community as a member of the Catholic Campus Ministry and the Reformed University Fellowship. He is also a member of the Furman University Medical Mission Organization which helps provide medical care both domestically and internationally to those in need. Noah is easily distinguishable on campus by his creative and colorful socks.
Jay Watson is a Philosophy and Political Science major from Columbia, South Carolina. He is serving as Sophomore Class President and is a brother of Pi Kappa Phi, serving as Housing Chair and RA on the fraternity hall. He loves acapella singing and is a member of the Bell Tower Boys. In his free time, he can be found running on the Swamp Rabbit Trail, writing poetry, or sewing bowties.
Richard Wetherill is a pre-dental student from Wilmington, North Carolina, majoring in Biochemistry. On campus, he is a part of Admissions Ambassadors, Club Soccer, Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, and Men of Distinction. Some of his passions in life are spending time with friends and family in the great outdoors (which is gorgeous around Greenville and Furman's campus), satisfying his perpetual sweet tooth, and playing fetch on the beach back in Wilmington with his white labrador retriever named Otis.
