The Shucker Leadership Institute strives to develop our members into proactive trailblazers. In order to accomplish that goal, we collaborate with some of the most prestigious leadership programs in the nation.
The Shucker Center for Leadership Development partners with a campus organization to deliver an annual leadership conference for the greater Furman community. This year's collaborative partner was the Riley Institute. The 2015 Leadership Symposium focused on the inequalities in health and health care, justice, law, and education.
Each year Shucker New Fellows participate in Junior Achievement, an organization that aims to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. In small groups New Fellows travel to local elementary schools to teach JA's lessons.
This year the Shucker Sophomore Fellows traveled to Orlando, FL to participate in Disney's Youth Education Series. Through this program Sophomore Fellows learned about Disney's leadership strategies, how to create a culture of excellence, and the techniques of teamwork.
This year New Fellows taught sessions for local high school students to empowers students to think big, choose their own public service passion, engage their entire school and broader communities, and create maximum impact. These sessions included topics such as effective communication, discovering root causes of issues, and ways to create and measure the impact.
