The Housing and Residence Life Office determines room assignments and
roommates through a computer-based lottery system. Our system takes your student's preferences into account when assigning housing and roommates, but does not guarantee a specific room assignment. Learn more about the room and roommate assignment process.
Furman has a four-year residency requirement, but there are situations where students may seek off-campus housing or living arrangements. Visit our policies and procedures to review exemptions for off-campus living.
Study Away Options
If your student is planning to study away for a full semester, your student has several options to consider when it comes to obtaining a room assignment for the semester they're going to be at Furman. Review our study away options.
Changing Rooms or Roommates
If your student is interested in seeking a new room assignment or roommate, your student may submit a request to our office. Review our policy for changing room assignments.
Each year, we have
approximately 60-80 students on a waiting list for student housing.
Our office will assign rooms to these students in August after we
are able to determine which students are not returning the University. By waiting until August, we can be more successful in keeping waiting list students in roommate pairs and assigning them to preferred buildings.
