We fund hundreds of internships and research opportunities all over the world. Furman Advantage is one of the few programs in the United States that directly funds student internships each summer, providing competitive fellowships for students who would otherwise receive little or no payment.
To be considered for Furman Advantage, you must obtain an off-campus summer internship that requires 35- to 40-hours per week and lasts at least eight weeks. If you receive funding, you’ll be required to do a number of academic assignments that compliment what you’re learning in your internship.
Apply for funding
Complete the student section of the Furman Advantage application before March 2nd to be considered for a fellowship, even if your position has not been finalized. You'll need the hiring organization as well as a faculty member to complete the form before the end of March. Summer 2015 Application: Furman Advantage Application
Your stipend will vary based on the amount of pay provided by the sponsoring organization and your demonstrated financial need. Generally, our fellowships are worth between $1,500 to $3,000. If you are receiving $3,000 or more from an organization, you will not be eligible to receive a fellowship.
You'll be alerted via email between mid-March and mid-April regarding the status of your application. If you've received approval from our faculty committee, you'll be asked to attend a meeting in April to complete the required paperwork.
If you're awarded a fellowship, you'll be required to post weekly to a message board, write a reflection paper, provide an evaluation of the internship, and be available to speak about your experience at Furman Engaged Day and other events.
