Virtual Private Networking at Furman

What is the VPN Client?

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) Client allows faculty and staff to securely connect to protected resources on Furman's network from off campus. These protected resources include Furman network shares and campus administrative database resources.

What about Microsoft Office 365 and Box?

You do not need VPN to use Office 365 email or Box. For many, the Furman Box may be a better way to share information than using VPN with Furman network shares (i.e., the "Q drive".)

Who may use VPN?
  • Furman faculty and staff may access campus network resources from off campus using VPN.
  • Students living at The Vinings are also eligible to use VPN.
  • Others requesting VPN access must be approved by the CIO.
Will VPN work with an iPad?

VPN access is provided on an "as needed" basis. If you think you need VPN access, please contact the IT Service Center.

System requirements

While VPN will is available for all eligible users, devices need to meet the minimum system requirements to be able to use the VPN system. To find out if your device meets the minimum system requirements, or for more information about VPN, please call the IT Service Center at (864) 294-3277.
