The Richard W. Riley Institute of Government, Politics and Public
Leadership and the Center for Corporate and Professional Development
at Furman University proudly present the August 21-26, 2004 United
States-China Executive Institute.
The
US/China Executive Institute Advisory Council:
Richard
W. Riley, chairman, is former United States Secretary of
Education and Governor of South Carolina. Richard W. Riley is a
partner in the multi-state law firm of Nelson, Mullins, Riley and
Scarborough. Secretary Riley is Senior Distinguished Professor of
Government, Politics and Public Leadership at Furman University
and serves as director of numerous business and non-governmental
institutions across the country. His law firm specializes in complex
business, legal and financial matters for local, national and international
clients.
Ravenel
B. Curry III is President of Eagle Capital Management an
investment management firm for corporations, foundations and families
located in New York City. Mr. Curry is a Trustee of the Blanton-Peale
Institute, the New York Hall of Science and a number of other educational
and financial organizations.
Gordon
R. Herring, a leader in the cable television industry in
the United States, is a founding member of a number of industry
organizations. Prior to serving as Executive Vice-President of TeleCable
Corporation, Mr. Herring directed research, marketing, and regional
operations for the Virginia based company.
William
B. Howes is the former President and Chief Executive Officer
of Inland Paperboard and Packaging of Indianapolis, Indiana. He
also has served as Executive Vice-President and as a member of the
Board of Directors of Temple-Inland Inc., as Corporate Senior Vice-President
of Union Camp Corporation, and as Director of the Indianapolis Chamber
of Commerce.
Carl
H. Kohrt is currently President and Chief Executive Officer
of Battelle Corporation, a global technology development and commercialization
leader headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Kohrt formerly served
as executive vice-president and chief technical officer for the
Kodak Corporation. Among the numerous business and civic boards
that Carl Kohrt serves on are The Ohio Business Roundtable, The
Conference Board, and the Council on Competitiveness.
Peter
Kwan is the co-founder of Pacific Gateway Capital Group
which specializes in investment projects in China and the United
States. For over twenty years he has run joint venture companies
in China for multinational companies such as SmithKline Beecham
and Bayer. A PhD chemist, Peter Kwan has worked in academia and
in industrial research.
James
Micali is Chairman and President of Michelin, North America,
a member of Michelin’s Executive Council, and of the Michelin
Group’s College of Directors. Trained in law, he previously
was Michelin North America’s Vice President for Legal and
Finance. Jim Micali currently serves on the Board of the South Carolina
Ports Authority and is Senior Distinguished Fellow for Political
Economy and Leadership Management in the Riley Institute.
J.
Carroll Rushing, a noted entrepreneur, is Chief Executive
Officer of Shasta Enterprises, a company that manages start up enterprises
including Interface LLC which manages the chemical inventory for
Delta and Northwest Airlines. He is a director of the Caribbean
Technical Institute and owns furniture, software development, and
health fitness firms. Mr. Rushing is Chair of the Societyof International
Business Fellows.
The
Richard W. Riley Institute of Government, Politics and Public Leadership
is a non-partisan organization affiliated with the Department of
Political Science at Furman University. Named for former Governor
of South Carolina and United States Secretary of Education Richard
Riley, the Institute engages students in politics, public policy
and public leadership through collaborative research, study abroad
opportunities and internships.
