The
Inaugural Annual South Carolina United Program 2007-2008
August 3 - 5, 2007
The Riley Institute
at Furman hosted 13 of Furman's 20 incoming Hollingsworth Scholars
for the first annual South Carolina United program on August 3 -
5. With the creation of South Carolina United, the Riley Institute
is expanding its emphasis on diversity leadership to reach the state's
future state leaders. As South Carolina's population grows increasingly
diverse, it is ever more important to understand the concept of
diversity, recognize its benefit to society, and learn how to lead
in a diverse environment. South Carolina United was an intensive
three-day experience on Furman's campus, and students spent time
with Furman professors and community leaders in order to learn about
diversity and policy issues of importance in South Carolina. For
