The second annual Upstate Diversity Leadership Awards Dinner, hosted by the Anderson Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce and the Spartanburg Chamber of Commerce, took place at the Anderson Civic Center, Anderson, SC on May 9, 2006. It was attended by over 550 members of the community.

Joseph B. Anderson, Jr. was the guest speaker at this year's award dinner. Anderson's background includes thirteen years in the military followed by a business career with General Motors (1979-1992), Composite Energy Management Systems, Inc. (1992-1994), and Chivas Products Limited (1994-2002). Currently, he serves as Chairman & CEO of TAG Holdings, LLC, which supports a variety of industries including automotive, consumer products and recreational vehicles. Anderson's community involvement includes Horizons-Upward Bound Advisory Board, and Board of Directors of Focus: Hope. For his complete biography, click here.

Awards were presented to recognize three individuals and three organizations for their outstanding achievement in promoting diversity in the Upstate. The winners are as follows:

Calder D. Ehrmann Outstanding Individual: John Miller, President and CEO of AnMed Health (this award was sponsored by Wachovia)

Outstanding High School Student: Michael Youssef, Southside High School (this award was sponsored by Bi-Lo, LLC)

Outstanding College Student: Elvia Pacheco, USC Upstate (this award was sponsored by Michelin North America)

Outstanding Non-Profit Organization: Greenville Literacy Association (this award was sponsored by the BMW Manufacturing Co.)
Outstanding Business: Bi-Lo, LLC (this award was sponsored by the University of South Carolina Upstate)

Outstanding Contribution to International Diversity: Michelin North America, Inc. (this award was sponsored by Furman University)
