The Riley Institute
at Furman, Furman University Asian Studies Department, and The National
Committee on US-China Relations: Public Intellectuals Program were
pleased to present a National Conference on China's Global Rise:
International Relations in an Era of Change April 7-8, 2009. All
events took place in the Melvin and Dollie Younts Conference Center.

This National
Conference assessed China’s changing role in the global community,
and its impact on the United States and the global order. It began
with an opening keynote address on April 7th by Minister
Xie Feng, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of the People's Republic
of China, on
"Priorities, Opportunities, and Challenges in China’s
Foreign Policy." On April 8th, there were two panels discussions:
Panel I addressed "US-China Relations" and Panel II titled,
"China’s International Relations and Security Policy,"
addressed China's changing foreign policy behavior. The conference
concluded with a keynote address by former U.S. Ambassador to China,
Ambassador Stapleton Roy, on "China and United States Foreign
Policy." All of the speakers have extensive experience working
in both the United States and in China.
