One of the most enriching programs for Furman students and the greater community is the Riley Institute's Fellow in Residence Program. This program brings Mayors, Senators and Members of Congress, Ambassadors, political writers and commentators, and non-governmental leaders to Furman for residencies for periods ranging from a week to one or more terms.

Fellows in Residence teach classes, give public addresses, meet with students individually or in groups, meet with citizens in the Greenville area and around the state and generally share their knowledge and experiences with the academic community and the public.

Among the Riley Fellows in Residence have been former Mayor of Greenville Max Heller, former Ambassador to Finland Derek Sherer, former New York Times Correspondent and author David Shipler, and European Green Party Chair Monica Frassoni.
