Public Address: "How Do Women Make A Difference in Politics?"

Marjorie Margolies
chairs Women’s Campaign International, a group that provides
grassroots political training to women around the world. The recipient
of numerous awards for her broadcast journalism, including five
Emmys, Margolies was a correspondent to The Today Show, Sunday
Today, A Closer Look, CNBC, and Real Life with Jane Pauley.
She also served as a journalist with NBC’s stations in New
York and Washington, D.C. for 20 years.
In 1992, Margolies
became the first woman ever elected to Congress from Pennsylvania
and led the United States delegation to the United Nations’
Fourth International Women’s Conference in Beijing, China
in 1995. She has since represented U.S. delegations to India, Spain,
Austria, Turkey, and Kazakhstan.
Margolies served
as President of the Women’s Campaign Fund and the Women’s
Campaign Research Fund from 1996 to 1998. Additionally, she was
the Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania
in 1998. Currently, a fellow at the Fels Center of Government at
the University of Pennsylvania, Margolies is the author of four
books, including the 1976 best seller, They Came to Stay.
