Andrés F. Irlando, Esq.
President, Cesar E. Chavez Foundation
Public Address: "The Legacy of Cesar Chavez"
Location: Furman University, Johns Hall 101 at 7 pm
October 18-20, 2004

Andrés Irlando became President of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization established by the family of the late civil rights leader and American icon, in November 2000. The Foundation’s mission is to preserve, promote, and apply the legacy and universal values of Cesar Chavez through contemporary programming based on his vision for a better world.

Irlando previously served as Vice President of Government Affairs for govWorks.com, a leading provider of e-government Internet services and the subject of the documentary film Startup.com, and he practiced law with O’Melveny and Myers LLP prior to that. Currently, Andrés serves as an intelligence officer in the US Naval Reserve in addition to his duties at the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation. He also is one of three candidates for the Democratic nomination for Lt. Governor of California.

Irlando graduated from Harvard and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence from Stanford Law School, where he served on the Stanford Law Review. During his first year of study at Harvard, Andrés met the late Cesar Chavez in Cambridge. Inspired by Cesar’s example and vision, he subsequently took a leave of absence from Harvard to work with the United Farm Workers of America, AFL-CIO.
