Triathlon

The Furman Triathlon Club (FTC) is a small club of Furman students interested in multi-sport events. Each year, in the 7 years the club has been in existence, the participation in the Furman Triathlon Club increases. The Furman Triathlon Club is sanctioned by USAT Triathlon.
For 2007, the Furman Triathlon Club will be focusing on the USAT Collegiate National Championship on
April 21, 2007.
Tuscaloosa, Alabama has been selected to host the 2007 USAT Collegiate National Championship.
The event, scheduled for April 21, 2007, will feature a 1.5k swim in the beautiful Black Warrior River and 40k bike and 10k run through the campus of the University of Alabama and on the scenic Jack Warner Parkway that runs along the river.
It will be a great collegiate atmosphere and it is a perfect course location, and it will be challenging.
Congratulations to the Furman Male Collegiate Team who won the Collegiate Division at the USAT Southeast Grand Prix Sprint Triathlon. Anchored by Phillip Martin, David Schnaak and Mike Needham, the Furman Male Collegiate Team beat the Clemson, University of Georgia and University of Florida teams. The Furman Female Collegiate Team finished 3rd in the Collegiate Division.
The USAT Southeast Grand Prix Sprint Triathlon was held at the Clemson Triathlon on 13, May 2006. There were 17 Furman triathletes at the race: 7 male Furman students, 3 female Furman students, and 7 Furman faculty/staff racing. There were 553 finishers.
Dr. Scott Murr is the advisor to the Furman Triathlon Club. Dr. Murr is a faculty member in the Health and Exercise Science department and is also the Fitness Center and Aquatics Director. Since 1984, Dr. Murr has done over 300 triathlons, from sprint to ultra-distance and is am a eleven time Ironman Triathlon finisher. Dr. Murr is also a member and Board of Director of the USAT Southeast Region.
