Furman to Host Symposium Friday That Focuses on Keeping the "Green" in Greenville

GREENVILLE, S.C.--Furman University will host a one-day symposium Friday, Oct. 24 that will focus on keeping the "green" in Greenville.
"The Greening of Greenville: Embarking on a Healthier Future" will offer a series of talks and programs that will explain how citizens, neighborhoods and developers can work together to protect and enhance Greenville County's natural landscape.
The symposium will also announce the creation of the Green Umbrella, an organization devoted to coordinating and championing the efforts of community groups interested in protecting Greenville's environment. The symposium is sponsored by a number of organizations, including Furman, Southern Living magazine, Carolina Foothills Garden Club and Greenville Forward.
Cost is $75, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch, symposium materials and a tour of the Cliffs Cottage.
The speakers for the symposium include John Floyd, editor of Southern Living magazine; Richard Webel, managing director of Innocenti & Webel, LLC; Marcia Bansley, executive director of Trees Atlanta; Vince Graham, developer, I'On Group; and James Urban, owner and landscape architect with Urban & Associates. Furman president David Shi will welcome the participants and moderate a panel discussion.
