Cleveland Symphony Concertmaster William Preucil to Perform with 'Friends' Sept. 16

GREENVILLE, S.C.—William Preucil, concertmaster of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and Furman University Distinguished Visiting Professor of Violin, will perform in concert with several guest musicians Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 8 p.m. in Furman’s Daniel Recital Hall.

Tickets for “Preucil & Friends” are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (60+) and $3 for students.  It is the first Sound Quality concert of the school year.

The program will begin with Bach’s “Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G Major,” where Preucil will perform with Thomas Joiner and Deirdre Hutton (violins), Anna Joiner, John Ravnan and Scott Schilling (violas), Christopher Hutton, Leslie Kilstofte and David Saliny (cellos), Tim Easter (double bass) and Charles Tompkins (harpsichord).

Preucil will also perform Bach’s “Sonata No. 3 in E Major  for Violin & Harpsichord” with Tompkins and “Beethoven’s “Sonata No. 7 in E Flat major for Piano and Violin” with pianist David Gross.

Preucil joined the Furman music faculty in December 2006.  He visits the university several times during each academic year, where he presents violin masterclasses, gives private lessons to Furman students and coaches the Hartness and Gladden String Quartets.

Preucil was appointed concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra in 1994.  Prior to that, he performed for seven seasons as the first violinist of the Grammy Award-winning Cleveland Quartet.  He also served seven years as concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony, and held the same positions with the Utah and Nashville orchestras.
