Andres Irlando, Head Of Chavez Foundation, To Speak On Campus Tuesday At 7 P.M.

His lecture, "The Legacy of Cesar Chavez," is open to the public. His appearance is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Richard W. Riley Institute of Government, Politics and Public Leadership, and is part of the university's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
Irlando, who is on the Furman campus as a Riley Institute Fellow-in-Residence, has been president of the Chavez Foundation since November of 2000. A nonprofit charitable organization established by the family of the late civil rights leader, its mission is to preserve, promote, and apply the legacy and universal values of Cesar Chavez.
Irlando previously served as Vice President of Government Affairs for govWorks.com, a leading provider of e-government Internet services, and practiced law with the firm of O'Melveny and Myers, LLP. He currently serves as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve in addition to his duties at the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation.
Irlando is a graduate of Harvard University and earned his law degree at Stanford University. He currently serves as an appointee of Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn to the City's Rent Adjustment Commission, as well as an appointee of State Senator Richard Alarcon to the California Democratic State Central Committee. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Olivia, and daughter, Isabella.
