196.5 News Bureau

 

A. Background

The News Bureau is a part of the Furman University Office of Marketing and Public Relations.

 

B. Policy

The News Bureau provides various public information services: releases to newspapers, radio and television; articles to regional and national periodicals; publicity materials for Furman touring groups; and liaison between news reporters and the Furman faculty and administration.

 

C. Guidelines

1. Faculty members are urged to supply the News Bureau with items which are good material for news stories.

2. Faculty members are invited to submit opinion articles of factual interpretations on significant current issues or trends for possible use in the public print media.

3. The News Bureau provides its service for faculty members or departments that need to publicize departmental, divisional, or all-university events and activities. To secure these services contact shall be made with the Director of the News Bureau well in advance of the event.
