188.2 Faculty Secretarial Services |
A. Background Insofar as possible Furman provides secretarial services to members of the faculty. Several departments have secretaries on a part-time or full-time basis. Other secretaries are available to faculty members not being served in their departments. |
B. Policy The university provides secretarial service in convenient locations for members of the faculty for their professional needs. |
C. Guidelines 1. Secretaries are charged with supplying services which are strictly profession-related; they are not to do tasks which are not directly related to the teacher's instruction or professional activities. 2. Each secretary follows a priority listing of the services he or she is to provide. For example, lengthy manuscripts for articles or books may be typed only if the secretary has no assignments of briefer and more immediate nature. 3. Serious problems about secretarial services and requests for extraordinary service should be brought to the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean. 4. Secretaries assist faculty members, but those assigned to a department are responsible to the department chair. 5. The responsible department chair resolves special questions of priorities in the use of a particular secretary's time. If more than one department is involved, priorities are established by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean. 6. Secretaries are stationed at strategic locations on the campus. ........................... |
