Favorite Activity in Greenville: I love catching a poetry slam or performance by a local poet at Coffee Underground on a Sunday night.
Favorite Greenville Restaurant: Lemongrass is a great little Thai restaurant that has some amazing curry. If you’re thirsty after dinner, drop by O-CHA tea bar for a bubble tea.
Furman Tradition: My favorite tradition isn’t really a fixed tradition, it’s more of a general practice. When you enter as a freshman, one day a senior will walk up to you and tell you the facts of Furman life. When this happens, listen. To this day, I have close relationships with my unofficial mentors. I remembered their advice and passed it on to freshmen in my senior year.
Best thing about Furman: The lasting relationships you make with professors will truly change your life. There are a couple professors that I know I can call up day or night and ask for advice. That is something that sets Furman apart. Your relationship doesn’t stop the moment your final grades come through, we’re in it for the long haul.
Hobbies: I love cooking! I’ll try a new recipe and try to improve it over and over again until I get it right. I also love car karaoke. I’ve found that the best judge of character is turning on the radio. If you’re unashamed and will give a full concert on the interstate, we’ll be great friends.
Most frequently asked question and answer: Q: Can I graduate early? A: Yes, it is possible! Just start planning early and get to know your academic advisor. Early graduation isn’t for everyone, make sure you have a plan if you want to make that leap. Always, always, always come back for May graduation if possible. The walk down the Mall makes it all worth it, that’s a tradition you don’t want to miss.
Best piece of advice for prospective students: Talk to current students. They’ll tell you everything you need to know that you wouldn’t normally hear on a tour. They know how difficult it can be to narrow down your list of prospective colleges because they’ve been in your shoes. Furman has something unique to offer everyone. Once you hear about someone else’s experience it will be easier to imagine yourself here. Your college experience will be strictly your own, at the end of the day choose the place that feels like home.
Random Fact: I’m a bit of an old soul. Most of my favorite music is from the Motown era. I also have a twin brother named Courtland.
