Matthew Bishop

Bio:

Matt hails from a small town in the state of Alabama. Matt is currently pursuing a bachelor of music (BM) with a concentration in piano
performance. Matt has been playing the piano since the second grade. In middle school, Matt began playing the trumpet, and marched six years with the Cherokee County High School Band. At Furman, Matt plays trumpet in both the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble. Matt has also played celesta with the percussion ensemble, and has endured a semester of Men's Chorale. Outside of the music building, Matt is an active member of the Furman Wesley Fellowship and the German Language House. For the upcoming Maymester, Matt will spend three weeks in a full immersion program in Germany. After graduating from Furman, Matt hopes to pursue a graduate degree in orchestral conducting.

Paul was born and raised in New York but lived in GA for the past 5 years. Paul has played trumpet for 8 years and probably will for the rest of his life. He loves music in general and enjoys playing MarioKart every once and a while. Paul loves the Giants...alot...

 

Anna McDanal

Bio:

Anna is the daughter of Hayden and Pam McDanal of Auburn, AL. She has a youger brother and sister, three cats, and a dog. Anna graduated Valedictorian from Lee-Scott Academy. She was invovlved in both the Alabama All-State Band and the All-State Chorus for three years. In high school, Anna was involved in band, chorus, student government, scholars' bowl, math team, and National Honor Society. Her high school band director was Garry Taylor and her private teacher was Michael Stough. Anna's interests include: music, writing, reading, history, and politics. In her spare time she reads short stories, novels, and likes to bake. At Furman, Anna is currently involved in the Paladin Regiment, wind ensemble, symphonic band, symphony orchestra, jazz ensemble, a brass quintet, BCM, and College Republicans.

 

Spencer Nance

Bio:

Spencer attended Spartanburg High School, where he participated in Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and he formed the Spartanburg Brass Quintet. Outside of school, Spencer enjoys performing in various community and professional musical groups. These groups include, The First Baptist North Spartanburg Church Orchestra, The Spartanburg Community Band, The Spartanburg Community Jazz Ensemble, The Carolina Cool Jazz Orchestra, and The Palmetto Yorth Orchestra. Spencer has also been involved with Region and All-State Bands throughout his musical career. He has appeared in the SCBDA Region 1 Band as 2nd chair for 6 years, and the SCBDA All-State Band for 3 years. He also played in the SCBDA All-State Jazz Band for 3 years and All-State Orchestra for 1 year. He has always enjoyed coming to the Furman campus as he has attended the Band and Orchestra Camp 5 times throughout his middle school and high school playing career. Spencer is also a member of the International Trumpet Guild.

 

Jason Ray

Jason is a 2008 graduate of Hillcrest High School. He is also an Eagle Scout. In his spare time, Jason enjoys playing video games of many genres as well as playing and listening to music. In addition to trumpet, he enjoys playing his drumset.

 

Gary Rhoden

Bio:

I was born in Gaffney, SC but have lived in Boiling Springs, SC for the past 6 years. I started playing trumpet in the middle of 7th grade (after Christmas break). In high school I was involved in the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. My senior year I was the Band Captain and Trumpet Section Leader in the Marching Band, I was first chair in the Wind Ensemble, and I played lead in the Jazz Ensemble. My hobbies include doing summer service work, playing sports with friends (nothing competitive), the occasional video games, and being a movie junkie. I am an Eagle Scout and a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow. At Furman, I am a member of the Symphonic Band, Marching Band, the Jazz Ensemble, and I'm a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. I plan on being a Band Director when I graduate and possibly moving on to grad school later on.

 

Josh Russell

Bio:

Josh is a member of the Furman University symphonic band, wind ensemble, and the Paladin Regiment. He participates in the Wesley Foundation at Furman and the Mere Christianity Forum. Josh is also a member of Furman's Mock Trial team. Josh is not quite sure what he's going to do with his life but he currently plans to attend law school after Furman. Josh is a native of Simpsonville, South Carolina.

Bio:

Andy is from Greenville, SC and went to Mauldin High School. He was section leader, all county, all region, and all-state while he was there.
