The Last Five Years, a contemporary musical by Jason Robert Brown, follows the relationship of Jamie, a young writer just catching his big break, and Cathy, a struggling actress. The musical follows their relationship, but the two characters start at opposite ends of the story. Beginning with Cathy's heart wrenching "Still Hurting," she starts at the end of their relationship, while Jamie starts at the beginning. The characters meet in time with the song "The Next Ten Minutes," which represents their marriage. We follow the relationship's twists and turns until the inevitable break-up. The Last Five Years is a looking glass of the paradoxes of time and different points of view.
