Because you don't
have to be conservative to love America!
The Furman University
College Democrats would like to welcome you to our new home on
the web! Located in Greenville, South Carolina, the FUCDs are
vocal and participating members of the community. It is
important to us to make an impact, no matter if it's big or
small, so that the Democratic message shared by many Americans
across the country can be heard both at Furman and in
Greenville.
The Furman University
College Democrats is an organization for the students who want
to become involved in the political process while promoting the
ideals of the Democratic Party at Furman. We strive to
make a difference on campus as well as in the community as a
whole. Furman College Democrats are proving that our
generation is not politically apathetic but rather eager to
become active leaders in our democracy (an we have fun while
doing it!).
Two of our members are
officers in the South Carolina Federation of College Democrats,
and a number of Furman Democrats are involved with the new Young
Democrats of South Carolina. Some of our members were
delegates to the 2004 SC Democratic Convention in May and to the
College Democrats of America National Convention in Boston,
which was held in conjunction with the Democratic National
Convention. Our former President, Thomas Santaniello, was
an alternate to the DNC itself! Others attended as guests
and volunteers for the party and its candidates. Many have
held internships in Washington, DC, as well as worked for local
Democratic leaders. Our members campaigned vigorously for
presidential candidates in the primary and continue to do so for
local, state, and national candidates as we approach November
2004. Members also participate in student government, the
South Carolina Student Legislature, Mock Trial, and the Model
United Nations. It's no surprise that the Furman
University College Democrats is the most active College Democrat
chapter in the state and one of the strongest in the South for a
school the size of Furman!
