Advising and Internship Opportunities
Internships provide students with the opportunity to apply their classroom learning while gaining valuable experience as a member of a company or organization. Students participate in internships during the academic year or the summer; with locations in the local community, in their hometown, across the country or in international countries. Most internships are filled by rising juniors and seniors, since they have more academic experience to offer the companies and organizations.
The Internship Office
The Intership Office (Susan Zeiger, Director), Johns Hall 204, offers direction, guidance and resources for students including a database of past and potential opportunities, websites, workshops and materials. Students will have access to current internship openings and will get assistance in developing an internship to match their interests. Students should contact the Internship Office two to three months prior to the planned start date of their internship experience to allow time for the search and application process.
Academic Departments
A number of academic departments offer internship courses for credit and the student should consult with the faculty about  the course requirements (i.e., reading, papers, etc.) beyond the on-site work experience. Among these are Business and Accounting, Economics, Psychology, HES, Communication Studies, English and Political Science (for local government and Washington, D.C.).  In addtion, the health career advisor assists students in locating health-related internships.
