From the Great Wall to Beijing and all destinations in between, Furman University’s China Study Abroad Program offers students exposure to a society and culture radically different from their own.

Participants begin with a two week trek through China’s major cities, including Beijing, Tibet, Sichuan, Yunnan, and Guilin.  Upon completion of this national tour, they will return to Shanghai to begin three classes in Chinese language and Chinese studies at East China Normal University.   The classes, taught specifically for the Furman program by Chinese instructors, provide the same academic credit a student would receive during a term at Furman.

Students get the chance to form lasting relationships with their Chinese roommates, as well as participate in weekly excursions, a home stay program, a language partnership program, and even an internship.

Applications for the program are made available during the preceding winter, and between ten and twenty-five applicants are typically accepted.  For more information, contact the Asian Studies Department.
