| FURMAN’S
AFFILIATION WITH AUSTRALEARN
The
Land Down Under! The No. 1 exotic destination for today’s university
students, and Furman is there!
Although Furman creates and runs the vast majority of its own study abroad
options, we do have an affiliation with Australearn, a consortium of 20
universities in Australia and New Zealand. The variety of universities
involved is a major attraction of this program: you can study in the ultra-urban
environments of Sydney or Melbourne, along the Goldcoast or in the Outback.
Australearn enjoys a superb reputation among international education professionals.
Our Down Under alums praise the assistance they receive from the American
office in Denver, the orientation staff at Cairns and the Australian campus
international offices.
The Australian and New Zealand school year differs from those in America
in that for most schools the first semester runs from February to June
and the second from July to November. “Summer vacation” is
from November to February. Most Furman students choose to participate
in the second semester.
The academic work in Australia and New Zealand is rigorous, but the rewards
are many. To learn more about this opportunity, consult the Australearn
Web site at www.australearn.org or come by the Center for International
Education for a booklet and application.
Requirements:
junior status, a 2.8 GPA (although some schools require a 3.0), recommendations
from professors and an interview in The Center for International Education.
The next program departs July, 2003.
