Admissions, Financial Aid moving to administration building
Renovations on the administration building to make room for the departments of Admissions and Financial Aid are expected to begin early next year and continue through the year 2000. Currently the main floor of the building houses the departments of Marketing and Public Relations, Student Services, Financial Services, Student Housing, Administrative Services and the Office of Academic Records (formerly Registrars Office). As part of the construction plan, Marketing and Public Relations will temporarily relocate this fall to the basement of the James Buchanan Duke Library in some of the space currently occupied by Military Science. The remaining departments in the administration building will temporarily relocate to yet-to-be-determined areas later this year to pave the way for the renovation. "This move is designed to relocate our admissions operation to the front of the campus where access and parking are easier," says Wendy Libby, vice president for business affairs. Once completed, the first floor of the administration building will house the Office of Academic Records in addition to Admissions and Financial Aid and possibly Student Services. The basement of the Earle Infirmary, currently occupied by Admissions and Financial Aid, will house Administrative Services and Financial Services. The Department of Student Housing, meanwhile, is planning to relocate to Lakeside Housing. "We realize this represents a major upheaval, but were working on plans to make this as smooth a transition as possible," says Libby, adding that architectural plans for the administration building have not been finalized. Greg Carroll, vice president for marketing and public relations, says temporarily relocating to the library means that the department, which includes publications, news service, web development, printing services, copy services and photography services, will be centralized in one location for the first time. "Right now we have people scattered in three different buildings," he says. "The move will improve efficiency and communication within our department." Military Science will share the space with Marketing and Public Relations until its new headquarters an addition to the Lay Physical Activities Center is completed. Construction on that project is slated to begin later this academic year. BOOKMARK IT!!
