Coming in the October issue of Inside Furman
President Shi has designated "Community Enrichment" as the theme for Year 2000 at Furman. With support from a $150,000 Knight Foundation Presidential Leadership Grant, the university is planning numerous community-enhancing events throughout the calendar year. Such activities might include a shadowing and exchange day, theme-oriented university gatherings such as the ice cream social in August, and community-improvement projects, such as adopting a local elementary school. A university-wide picnic in Timmons Arena during January will kick off the event. A planning committee consisting of A.V. Huff, Harry Shucker, Linda Julian, Elaine Nocks, Vic Greene, Tom Buford, Mary Hearne, Susan Zeiger, and students Allen Cothran, Oshea Gamble and Celeste Riddle has been meeting to generate a list of possible activities. This list, and other information related to the Year of Community, will be published in the October issue of Inside Furman. BOOKMARK IT!!
