Background
Furman will welcome the largest-ever field of teams for the 2009 Palmetto Rugby Tournament October 10-11. Nearly 20 teams, representing every corner of the state will attend. The College of Charleston women, Charleston men and Furman University will seek to defend their tournament titles. Furman has hosted the tournament eight times since the tournament was reorganized in 2000. First-time participants this year will be St. Andrews(Greer), Sumter and Asheville and Greenville women. Myrtle Beach also returns to the Palmetto stage after a six-year absence.

Pitches
The games will be played on two varsity football practice fields and the John S. Roberts Rugby Field. All the fields will be regulation length. The two lower fields (varsity practice fields) will be a bit narrow. The pitch turf will be excellent. Field 2 is next to the tract. Field 3 is next to the Physical Activities Center.
