The Palmetto Rugby All-star team continued to improve in 2005 in posting a 1-1 record. The team, comprised of the best college players in the Palmetto Union, defeated the North Carolina Union 19-5 but fell to Florida in a hotly contested game, 20-27.

Based on points, the Palmetto team advances to the four-seed in 2006 and can compete for the championship in the one-day, six-team tournament. The event was hosted by the University of Florida November 12.

The Palmetto side is by far the small union represented in the Rugby South College All-start tournament. With just five Division III schools and one Division II program, the player-pool for the Palmetto is much smaller than the other five teams. Every other union (Georgia, Mid-South, Deep South , Florida and North Carolina ) has at least one Division I program and several Division II teams from which to select players.

After going winless in this tournament for a decade, the Palmetto logged its first win in 2003. The squad has show steady improvement since that time but has not captured that elusive second win. The key to team's success has been good organization and excellent participation among member colleges.

The Palmetto All-Star team has been coached by John Roberts (Furman) since 2003.
