When you retire after the Spring term what will be the thing you miss most about working at Furman?

"I will miss the dynamic atmosphere of a school on the move, continually updating its programs and facilities. Also, I will miss the interactions with the excellent students at Furman. It has given me great satisfaction working with current and prospective health career students and helping them work out curricular, research and internship arrangements."

Gil Fairbanks, Biology

"I suspect it will be more like it was when I completed my graduate work. I think it took me five years or so to not suffer guilty feelings when I was at home on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon rather than working in the lab. It seems there is always a test waiting to be graded or new one to be written and, of course, that stack of letters of recommendation to be written for pre-meds or others who seeking admission into some graduate program. The latter is probably what I will miss most, at least in the short term."

Rex Kersetter, Biology

"I will miss the two things that make Furman a special place for me....the warm, relaxed working environment and interaction with the bright and articulate Furman students."

Bob Arnold, Economics, Business and Administration

"The thing I expect to miss the most about working at Furman is the daily contact with a great bunch of colleagues and students in the Biology Department. In particular, I expect to miss the challenging and rewarding activity of guiding and working with students in the labs as they learn to understand and carry out scientific protocols and apply them to research projects."

"I will miss most is the close association with so many great people, students, faculty and staff. Intellectual stimulation, learning, and so forth are important but people are the most important."
