Employee campaigns target 100 percent When he’s not pecking on his laptop or talking on his phone, Don Lineback has been practicing a secret exercise . . . cartwheels. Yes, cartwheels. Lineback, vice president for development, has promised to do cartwheels on the main mall if 100 percent of faculty and staff contribute to Furman’s comprehensive campaign. Both groups launched campaign drives late last year. So far, 80 percent of staff and 77 percent of faculty have contributed. Prior to the campaign about 35 percent of staff and 45 percent of faculty contributed annually to the university. Economics professor Ken Peterson and Wayne King, director of housing, are chairing the faculty and staff fund-raising efforts. Both have said a high level of participation -- even from those who contribute only a small monthly amount -- is important because it sends a strong message to the university’s other constituents, including alumni. As of February, several groups had reached the 100 percent participation level. Those groups are the Alumni Board, Board of Trustees, Paladin Club Board, President’s Council and the Young Alumni Council. Lineback said 100 percent participation could be unprecedented for universities comparable to Furman. “I don’t know of any school that has reached that level of participation,” he said. Those who have not contributed but wish to do so can call the Development Office at (864) 294-2123. |
