University Housing will provide comfortable, safe, and attractive living facilities and insure that the increasingly diverse population of students lives in an environment which supports the development of the whole person. In doing so, value is placed on each individual and the role he or she plays in strengthening the Furman community. By helping implement the best possible orientation for new students and by maintaining similar levels of care and support for students throughout the year, University Housing will assist students in their developmental growth throughout their enrollment. University Housing will continue to be service-oriented but will also establish and consistently enforce parameters which are in the best interest of students and their living environments. Resident Assistants and Freshman Advisors will be chosen who are supportive of those parameters, service-oriented, and who create inviting hall communities that embody tolerance and mutual respect. The availability of public area facilities, such as twenty-four hour study rooms and other meeting facilities, will complement the university's academic mission and provide opportunities for informal involvement with faculty and peers.
