When you are ready to leave, lock your door and bring your key to the NV J RA office. Ask an RA to accompany you back to your room and discuss any damages that may have occurred during the year. You must sign your room inventory card (RIC).
NOTE: All residents will be held responsible for common area damages within a house unless the person(s) responsible identifies themselves at the time of checkout. If there is damage to the exterior of buildings, laundry rooms or other common areas, (to include excessive trash left on landings or grounds) all residents of that house will be subject to a community damage assessment of no less than $15. If the person(s) responsible for any damage(s) in the public areas identifies themselves at checkout, they alone will be assessed. Damages, improper checkout fees, or community damages will be charged to your student account. |
WHERE CAN I STORE ALL OF MY STUFF?
Storage areas are not available on campus. Perhaps you can find a friend living off-campus that would be willing to store your items over the summer. If not, I suggest checking into a local storage facility with some friends. Check the Paladin for ads regarding storage, Furman Telephone Directory, or the Yellow Pages. Be sure to mention you are a Furman student since some may offer a discount. Some facilities will even offer partial month storage for those students that need a place to store their items between spring closing and Summer Session I. This is also a good time to make plans with other residents who may want to share a facility to cut costs. Please refer to the following link for more information on storage - http://www.furman.edu/housing/storage.htm
All personal items must be removed when you vacate your house. There will be no exceptions. Any furniture or personal items left behind will be removed and disposed of at the owner's expense. Housing & Residence Life cannot assume responsibility for any items left in Village Green Housing. Be sure to check the house thoroughly and remove all personal belongings before checking out. Do not assume that one of your roommates will store your forgotten belongings for you.
ARE YOU LEAVING YOUR CAR HERE?
Park your vehicle behind McAlister Auditorium in a parking space which is not reserved. This is the area where public safety officers and staff park. Please provide Public Safety with your name, cell telephone number or other summer contact telephone number, and a description of the vehicle (make, model, color, license). When you return to campus to remove your car, please inform public safety dispatch (294-2111).
WHAT DO I DO WITH ALL THIS TRASH?!
Place all trash inside the dumpsters provided. PLEASE do not pile trash outside a full dumpster or where a dumpster may have been removed temporarily to empty. If a dumpster is full, please find a dumpster that still has room. Large 30-yard dumpsters will be placed throughout North Village for those items that cannot fit into the smaller dumpsters. Continue to place your everyday trash in the smaller dumpsters that are tipped daily. Please reserve the large dumpsters for big items or that extra trash that has been collected over the school year.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO FOR MY HOUSE TO BE CONSIDERED CLEAN?
All houses are inspected and all decisions final. Failure to follow through with vacating cleaning procedures may result in partial forfeiture of the housing deposit. When cleaning your house, follow the directions and precautions on the cleaning products used. Be sure to follow the checklist below before vacating your house to avoid any assessments:
