HHMI-BRIDGES Undergraduate Research Fellows Program
Twenty high-achieving students wil be selected to perform research with a Furman faculty mentor in the summer of 2010, continuing into the following school year, and ideally beyond.
Specifically, this program includes:
An introduction to data handling and scientific ethics during a 2-credit May Experience course in 2010.- A stipend of $3,500 for 10 weeks of summer research. The university will also provide housing at no charge.
- An academic year stipend of $1,500 to continue research for 10 hours/week throughout the academic year as a sophomore.
- A seminar in scientific research beginning in the summer and continuing throughout the academic year. The HHMI seminar is awarded two academic credits per year, one per semester.
- Fellows will be encouraged to continue research beyond their sophomore year. Additional funding is available to support these activities.
Fellows may, but are not required to, also apply to the Undergraduate Scholars Program.
For students interested in applying to this Fellows program in 2010, please check this site for the application form late in the Fall Semester. In the interim, we recommend making a conscientious effort to get to know your academic advisor and math, science and computer science professors. Applicants for the Fellows program will need to identify a faculty mentor to sponsor their research and obtain recommendations from their mentor, academic advisor and an instructor in a math or science course. Get to know these faculty early!
To add your name to the list of students who will receive an application automatically via e-mail, please send a request to
Dr. Eli Hestermann.
CONGRATULATIONS to all our
