Furman Professors Win HHMI Distinguished Mentor Awards
Furman University and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute recognize the significance of faculty members who make substantial contributions to increase the number, quality and diversity of students completing successful undergraduate research experiences. To that end, Furman is joining with existing HHMI Distinguished Mentor programs at the University of Florida, Louisiana State University, Harvey Mudd College and Emory University to select two Distinguished Research Mentors each year. Faculty will be considered from all math/science departments following either application or nomination, and awardees will receive one year of discretionary ($5,000/yr) and research supplies ($5,000/yr) funding. Selection criteria will focus on successful mentoring, scholarship, and encouragement of student researchers at both the undergraduate level and in secondary school (outreach) activities.
Please check this site for nomination/application forms late in the Fall Semester. For more information or to add your name to a list of faculty who will receive the application form automatically via e-mail, please send a request to Dr. Eli Hestermann.
