Furman University would like to offer a summer program for students between the ages of 6 and 14 with academic needs in literacy processes like reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing. This summer program will provide an individualized educational program; a one-to-one, 60 minute tutoring session from Monday to Thursday; close communication with parents; and a final report to be shared with parents, students, and the school the child attends if parents would like this. At the beginning of the program, certified teacher participants will evaluate each student individually. Then, a unique program will be determined for each child. The daily program will include a variety of reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing opportunities including warm-up reading, miscue analysis/running record assessments, writing activities, new reading and writing activities, and plans for reading and writing at home each day. |
